Hi, I'm perfectn0ir. If you are reading this, you are a real one <3.
I am a Computer Science and Philosophy major. Most people around me think this combination seems very random, but the two fields are surprisingly interconnected, especially now with the ongoing AI boom. Although I think I am quite alright at programming, it is my least favourite part of my degree; I prefer the more abstract mathematical aspects of Computer Science (maybe I should've signed up for Mathematics and Philosophy instead...). As for the Philosophy side of my studies, my favourite school of thought is Existentialism. I find it is the most relevant to life in the 21st century. Sartre and Nietzsche are my favourite thinkers of this field. Outside of Existentialism, I enjoy learning logic (though I am still very new to it!).
As for my hobbies, I enjoy sifting through new music, reading books, and surfing the web. Some of my current favourite artists are Porter Robinson, Slowdive, and Quadeca, but I listen to a lot of other artists and genres all the time. I have to read a lot of dense texts for school, so I don't read as often now. However, when I read, I usually read Japanese literature (books/novels, I'm not really into manga). My favourites are The Great Passage by Shion Miura and The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yōko Ogawa.
I don't really watch traditional media like TV shows or movies, though I will say I am a big fan of Trainspotting and Blade Runner. I don't really watch anime anymore, but here are a few picks from back when I used to: Serial Experiments Lain (this website wouldn't exist without this show), Welcome to the N.H.K. (hit me very hard during the pandemic), Neon Genesis Evangelion (a classic) and Just Because! (my guilty pleasure). A lot of people say these are pretentious picks, and in hindsight, yep, I'd say so too.
Finally, I am running this website for a few reasons:
- I want to learn HTML/CSS and put it to the test.
- I want to have a platform to share my thoughts.
- I want to relive 2000s web culture.
I hope you enjoy your stay!
